Kladno Nursery

Forty-eight children, one building, a fixed budget and a hard September deadline. We kept the plan to a single story so the whole thing could be built in brick by a local firm, and spent the savings on the canopy, which is the room the children actually use most of the year.

Inside, birch plywood everywhere a child can reach and white plaster above it. The windows are square and low, with reveals deep enough to sit in. Opened on the first day of term.
