The client asked for a study and a spare room. The roof gave us better than that: a spruce structure from 1928 in near perfect condition, which we cleaned, left exposed, and insulated around rather than under.

Everything new is one material. Oak boards on the floor, birch plywood for the one cupboard, and two flush roof lights that do all the work on a grey day. The dormer outside is zinc, folded on site by a roofer who has been doing it for forty years.
